Adoption Requirements

Madison Animal Rescue Foundation animals are for life...we're always here to answer questions and help solve problems. Please be aware that by adopting an animal from MARF, you are making a commitment to provide love, care, and medical treatment for the life of the animal, which can be up to 20 years. Adopting an animal is a serious commitment, but one that is rarely regretted!   Please take this responsibility seriously. If you are unable to make such a commitment, please consider becoming a foster instead?

1)       Pets are social creatures and need to be part of the family in order to thrive and flourish.  Dogs must be kept primarily in-doors. Our cats are in-door only, as cat allowed outdoors are exposed to too many life threatening dangers.

2)      Adopter must have all current pets up to date on shots and spayed/neutered. Adopter need to have a veterinarian (vet clinic) that we can contact for a reference/vet check if previously or currently a pet owner.

3)      Adopter agrees to work with MARF if they are unable to take care of the animal in the future.  This is a joint effort and needs to be coordinated with a MARF representative.  Please understand that it may not be immediately possible for MARF to take custody of the animal as we are purely a foster based rescue.  We will try to help you re-home your pet, but you are ultimately responsible for your pet until an appropriate adopter or foster space opens up. You are part of the re-homing process and will need to foster/volunteer at adoptions, just like our volunteer fosters do.

5)      Do not adopt an animal to give as a pet or gift. If you are getting a pet for a child, you must take responsibility for it. Children cannot take proper care of a pet alone.

6)      You must be at least 21 years old to adopt.

7)      Puppies that have not been spayed or neutered can only be adopted locally unless special arrangements are made. Cats and kittens will be spayed/neutered prior to adoptions. MARF covers the cost of the spay/neuter at MARFs affiliated local vets (Pet Hospital of Madison, West Madison Vet Clinic and Madison Animal Care Hosptial).

8)      Many of our dogs have a history of getting out, therefore they require appropriate containment/fenced yard for outside.

9)      MARF only adopts locally and cannot transport dogs or cats

CAT ADOPTIONS-TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. The adopter agrees to pay Madison Animal Rescue Foundation (MARF) an adoption fee, which is refundable within the 7-14 day trial period, provided that the adopter returns the animal in the same condition that it was adopted and releases MARF of any further liability. The animal must be returned with its folder, vet records, and rabies tag. Failure to return the rabies tag or transfer the microchip registration with the animal will result in a $25 fee.  The adoption fee is not refundable after the trial period.
  2. It is agreed and understood by the adopter that while every effort is made to provide an accurate history and assessment of an animal’s health and temperament, MARF does not warranty an animal regarding medical status, behavior, or disposition.  It is further agreed that physical changes (ie. declawing) and/or environmental changes may affect the temperament and behavior of the above named animal and that MARF has no liability or responsibility of any nature regarding later defects with the animal, or injuries/damage to any person or property that may be caused.
  3. The adopter is aware that by adopting an animal from MARF, you are making a commitment to provide love, care, and medical treatment for the life of the animal. The adopter agrees to provide the animal a good, safe home with proper care, attention and  agrees to have the animal examined by a licensed veterinarian at least once every year and will keep the animal’s vaccinations up to date.
  4. ADOPTER AGREES ALL ANIMALS ADOPTED FROM MARF WILL BE KEPT INDOORS AND WILL NOT BE DECLAWED. MARF reserves all rights in reclaiming the animal should we find the adopter in violation of the agreed upon contract.
  5. The adopter agrees to have the animal properly licensed each year and not to violate any federal, state, or local laws or ordinances with this animal.
  6. Return Cat Policy -  The adoption fee is not refundable after the trial period stated above has passed. If after 30 days from date of adoption and with certain conditions warranting, you need to return your adopted cat please contact a MARF representative. Since MARF does not have a shelter/facility the returned cat may be placed back into our foster program when a foster space becomes available, until then you are responsible for your cat. We cannot accept "walk-in" returns or requests at our adoption events without prior coordination. All vetting must be current and up to date to include annual exam, feline distemper shot and rabies.
  7. In the event that MARF employs an attorney due to a violation of this agreement, it is agreed the adopter shall pay the attorney’s fees and court costs that may be deemed reasonably necessary.

I have read and understand the terms and conditions listed above and agree to abide with the conditions as set forth. I acknowledge that all the information on this form is true and correct. I understand that any misrepresentation of fact may result in the removal of the adopted animal from my possession. This agreement shall be binding upon the adopter and MARF and their successors or beneficiaries.
